  • Dr. Joseph b. Kirsner served in the Army from 1943-1946.  He first served in Europe, where he cared for the wounded on both sides of the conflict.  Doctors at Liege University in Belgium consulted with him on how to properly re-nourish Holocaust survivors.  Soon after VE Day, the army sent Dr. Kirsner to the Philippines to aid in the treatment of ex-prisoners of war which included Dutch POWs who were held near Nagasaki when the atomic bomb was dropped.
